Free Investment Information Sources – shared from one of NZSA’s committee members

NZSA Disclaimer

This list of free investment information sources has been compiled by an NZSA committee member to assist investors in accessing high-quality, publicly available content. These platforms provide regular market commentary, insights, and analysis from a range of financial professionals. While some include advertising or promotional material, the underlying information is often of practical value to investors seeking to stay informed.

Livewire Markets (Australia)

Livewire provides free email updates every few days, featuring a wide range of content from high-net-worth investors, wealth advisers, consultants, fund managers, company founders, and institutional investors. Occasional commentary is also provided by company executives and major shareholders.

Livewire’s mission is to “level the playing field by giving all investors access to high-value investment insights, commentary and analysis from Australia’s leading money managers.” Content includes articles, videos, and podcasts, many offering buy/sell/hold opinions on ASX-listed companies. This is especially useful for those with significant exposure to Australian shares.

Ausbiz

Ausbiz distributes regular email updates covering Australian market activity and investor sentiment. Key formats include:

  • The Open – Early trading insights
  • Off the Clock – Weekly reviews and analyst stock views
  • The COB – End-of-day market wrap

They provide a broad array of podcast content. Users may wish to selectively engage with material to focus on areas of personal interest.

I Partners

This Australian investment firm specialises in private debt funds and produces the “Grow Your Wealth” podcast series, where host Travis Miller interviews fund managers, CEOs, and other financial professionals. While relevance will vary by topic, episodes occasionally provide valuable insights into private capital and market trends.

Talking Stock – Chris Lee & Partners

This newsletter focuses on the New Zealand share market. While subscription is not limited to clients, it is especially useful for those following local equity performance and commentary.

CommSec Daily Trading Alerts

CommSec, a division of Commonwealth Bank Australia, sends daily summaries of ASX-related news. These updates assess each item’s potential share price impact—classified as positive, neutral, or negative—and indicate time horizons (short, medium, or long-term). Stocks are also evaluated as undervalued, fairly valued, or overvalued.

For users interested in technical analysis, CommSec also provides trending charts and signal alerts. While primarily targeted at Australian residents, non-residents may still temporarily receive updates.

Note on Access Restrictions:
CommSec recently implemented a policy change affecting users with international addresses. From June 2025, clients outside Australia may have their CHESS-sponsored accounts closed, with holdings moved to issuer-sponsored status. Investors in New Zealand have successfully retained their Australian HINs by transferring CHESS sponsorship to local brokers such as Invest Direct. However, this change may impact access to historical trading and dividend records previously stored on the CommSec platform.
